Report on Three Weeks on the New Gig

In a continuation of yesterday's post, I thought I'd offer up a review of how the new job is going.  Lots of friends and family have asked, and now that I'm three weeks into it and the dust is settling a little bit, there's enough data for a review.

In a phrase, I love my job!  For the first time in my career, I'm not pushing around the company Pawns and Knights.  I'm moving the Big Lady around the board, and when necessary, the King too.  My budget is robust, and has me into TV, radio, print, sponsorships, and and host of other touch points well beyond my traditional digital engagements.

Beyond my role and responsibilities, how I've been welcomed and treated is amazing.  People are extremely happy that I'm there, and are treating me as such.  I'm adding value - to the point that I'm getting invited to meetings that don't touch my area, as my perspective and opinion is valued.  As I'm implementing things, people are deferential to my opinion and supportive of where I'm taking us.

I am finally where I want to be from a responsibility standpoint, and it is awesome.

I'll close with an anecdote.  Yesterday we were at the bar watching the Vikings game, and one of our ads came on the TV.  It was one of the first ads that I was able to influence, and I made a number of changes to what was developed in attempt to make it more effective.  As it was playing, I thought through that whole process, and how we ended up.  I was proud of what we had ultimately put in front of our customers.

Especially all of those Vikings fans in the bar, cheering on the Purple behind enemy lines.
